From what I've read it's being sold alongside the CE, which will be getting it for free, so that folks who didn't order the CD can get it on Day 1. S'what I read on Kotaku, so I wasn't sure if they were missing something or if you'd read a more recent article or something.

Yeah, it was joystiq, and I read it wrong. False alarm!
It really should be included in every version of the game. Like Shale was in DA , at the very least. Made into an incentive to buy the game new instead of an incentive to spend more money after buying the game, new or used.

I won't deny that they dropped the ball on this piece of DLC, but damn, reading some of the comments that people are posting about it makes me want to beat my head against a wall. You'd think that they were trying to get every person who preordered the game to sign for a revived SOPA from the way that people are raging about it.

Bioware doesn't exactly handle DLC very well, while it's nothing I'd ever yell 'BOYCOTT!' over, it's certainly ridiculous the sheer amount of Day 1 DLC there is. I swear there are more DLC weapons than actual in-game weapons available to everyone.

They've never handled distribution of DLC all that well - there's never been a single decrease in price or sale that I can remember, and they're particularly bad about retailer-specific preorder junk, but I wouldn't be surprised if it EA was a big part of why they've had a pretty bad deal with it. Not saying it's entirely EA's fault, but they've likely got a decent amount of influence on why it's been handled so poorly.
That being said, I've NEVER understood the whole "BOYCOTT" knee-jerk reaction, since I don't think I've ever seen it followed through. I wouldn't be surprised if the biggest whiners still bought it after either canceling their preorder or downgrading to the regular edition.

I don't even care how many spoilers I end up reading anymore. I'm going to play ME3 no matter what.

From watching the unboxing of ME3, it seems like the incentive of buying the game new is *the multiplayer*- the box comes with a code for activating multiplayer, so doesn't that mean that you can't activate it if you didn't buy it new..?

Multiplayer shouldn't be something that's used as an incentive, it's half of the game typically, at the very least a huge chunk. DLC, as nice as it is, is usually small, and optional, better suited to raising new game sales than, well, the other half of the game.

I hope it's true, maybe people will cancel preorders for it and I can get one! I really want that N7 patch...I would seriously use it.

Eh, I don't think that really counts for Mass Effect though, Pen. It's the last in the series, and the series has been strictly single-player up until now; Hell, the multiplayer is more of an extra than "half the game", it wasn't even developed by the same team.
I mean, I'd be buying ME3 for full price even if there was no multiplayer mode- I bought the other two games.

Ace, if it come down to you not being able to get a CE, you can totally have my patch. I doubt I'm gonna use it for anything, so I can just send it out if you want it.

I guess you're right, it's not like Mortal Kombat or Twisted Metal where most of your time will be in the multiplayer.

This makes me happy
I'd still like to get my own copy of the collector's edition, because I love artbooks and stuff like that, but if I can't, that'd be pretty rad.

I totally dig you there. I'm a sucker for extras like that. But yeah, if you can't get your hands on a copy let me know and I'll send it out.

Why do people automatically equate the third entry in a franchise with the end of a series? Is it just so people can whine when the fourth comes out? Or maybe because three makes a nice, round trilogy and a fourth would ruin the series feng shui? They've even said keep your save files from Mass Effect 3. This series is far from over.

People are assuming that it's the last, because Bioware have said that it's the end of Shepard's story.
However, this is an EA franchise, and they are notorious for milking their cash cows dry.

I just played a match of the multiplayer. We were all about level 16 in the class we played, and we had an adept, an infiltrator, a soldier, and an engineer. Not a word was spoken (partially because in game text chat is bugged), but we were the most cohesive fucking team I've ever seen. Some of the most fun I've ever had. We all filled our roles, and it was magnificent. I am going to play the hell out of this multiplayer for a long time to come.

This. The only thing that's over as of ME3 is Shepard's story, they've been pretty specific about that.
